Campus Cantina was my (and my group’s) senior capstone project. We were tasked with continuing the development of an already existing project. The project itself is essentially a food-based social networking website wherein users are able to post about their experiences with certain restaurants on and around campus. Additionally, restaurants themselves are able to engage with customers and gauge their experiences at a more local and community level.
The project when we received it was very bare-bones and messy in terms of file structure and desperately needed comments within the code. Throughout the majority of the project, I was one of the only two out of eight people who were able to work in the code to any real extent. That is because at the start of the project, neither I nor any of the other members, except one, had worked with JavaScript or the MERN stack.
Therefore, in order to contribute to the team, I focused my efforts on learning JavaScript and the MERN stack to a level reasonable enough to do so. Fortunately, I quickly gained an intimate enough understanding so as to be able to quickly implement new features and perform bug fixes, and by the end of the semester contribute many features to the product.
Overall, the project was an enjoyable experience, and the group members who stuck it out were amazing people that I am glad to have spent my final semester with. Shout out to Joshua Bales, Kirsten Hanson, Devin Whitehead, Allyson Adam, Marcus Wallace, and Sam Williams. You guys are the best.
Finally, I wish the absolute best to the future teams that will take up the torch of development for this project.
